What is THCP?

THCP is the new, psychedelic cousin of THC that everybody wants to hang out with!

This incredible cannabinoid is found naturally only in certain strains of hemp and cannabis. It was first identified in 2019, making it a very new (and exciting) option. Research published in the peer-reviewed journal Scientific Reports found it to be especially potent in lab experiments

Before you start purchasing THCP, you should be informed. Let’s look at what THCP is, how it’s made , and where to find reliable THCP products

What is THCP?

The full name for a THCP isolate is Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabiphorol. This cannabinoid occurs naturally in cannabis plants. Because it was discovered recently, the safety and precautionary effects are not yet known.

THCP might be present in naturally occurring cannabinoid molecules, but at very low concentrations. It also has more carbon atoms than Delta 9 THC — the most common cannabinoid found in cannabis plants.

The limited research available on THCP tells us it bonds strongly to the body’s natural CB1 and CB2 receptors, part of our endocannabinoid system. In the peer-reviewed paper linked previously, researchers found THCP is about 33 times more effective in bonding to CB1 receptors.

This binding affinity is what makes THCP so potent, at least in theory. Lab tests of human cells don’t perfectly replicate the human body, but they do help us understand the potential effects and strength of this cannabinoid.

To put it lightly, according to anecdotal reports, THCP can lead to some intense experiences. Always be careful with dosing, especially when trying THCP for the first time.

Is THCP Natural?

THCP exists naturally within certain cannabis strains in small amounts. When purchased in a THCP product, however, it is almost always a synthetic cannabinoid produced through a chromatography process. This process uses hemp plants as a source.

Is THCP Legal?

THCP is legal on the federal level when it’s produced using hemp containing no more than 0.3% Delta 9 THC. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized the commercial production of hemp that meets that restriction on Delta 9 content.

However, some states and cities may have stricter rules around hemp-derived cannabinoids. Always check local and state laws before buying THCP or any other federally legal hemp-based product.

THCP vs THC (Delta 9 THC): What’s The Difference?

THCP, and similar chemicals like Delta-9 THC and Delta-8 THC, have a shared range of effects in the big picture. THCP likely has stronger effects when comparing equivalent doses, based on existing research and user reports.

The crucial difference lies in the length of the alkyl side chain in THCP. This difference is thought to lead to THCP’s increased potency.

What Are the Benefits of THCP?

THCP offers the potential for an experience similar to that of Delta 9 THC, but more intense. Because the new cannabinoid is recently discovered, more studies are required to conduct what are the actual effects of THCP on the body.

While experimenting with the THCP effects on lab mice, Italian researchers found that THCP has a calming factor on the mind. It also promoted pain relief and decreased temperature.

On a practical level, the effects resemble the ones you get from consuming Delta 9 THC. The difference is the intensity.

Compared to other cannabinoids, THC P is one pretty potent high-producing powerhouse!

What Are the THC P Side Effects?

Although more research is necessary to determine the correct side effects of THCP, it’s widely accepted that they differ from person to person. The side effects of this new cannabinoid depend on the person’s age, the amount they consume, the purity of the product, and the frequency of use.

THCP can have side effects like paranoia, anxiety, sleepiness, fatigue, dry mouth, increased self-awareness, and red eyes.
